The COCLA cooperative is located near Machu Pichu and benefits from a climate that is favourable to coffee growing. Coffee growing is a widespread activity in Peru. It provides a living for more than a hundred thousand families. The country exports 90% of its production, which places Peru in 8th place in terms of world production. Most coffee growers are small producers, cultivating their coffee on properties of less than 2 hectares. This is why they organise themselves into cooperatives in order to facilitate the drying stage of the coffee and the export of the harvest.
